The CBF released images and audio from the VAR booth at the game Botafog 1 x 2 Bahia, played this Sunday night at the Nilton Santos Stadium, for the 5th round of the Brasileirão. One of the controversial moves – and even the subject of complaints from coach Artur Jorge – was the wrong side of Damián Suárez on a goal by Júnior Santos. See the video below.

At the start of the second half, Marlon Freitas launched the Uruguayan deep. The defender attacked the area and crossed for Júnior Santos to finish the ball into the back of the net. After just over two minutes of VAR review, referee Rafael Rodrigo Klein waved off the move because Uruguay were offside at the start of the play.
The video referee in the duel was Igor Junio Benevenuto.
– Area marked upside down, ok? Wait, okay? Let’s draw the lines. The first defender, this is this one or the one below. Mark it, on top of the nose. Now let’s mark the other player, go to the left… It will be 13 (Arias). Defendant is 13 (Arias). Now put on the striker (Damián Suárez). He can go up (the line), up to his arm… That’s the angle. To the left, to the right… That’s it. It is an arm. OK, you can confirm. Side by side. No penalty, clean shot – said Igor Junio.
Botafogo coach Artur Jorge disagreed with the offside call and protested at a press conference after the match.
– We scored a goal a minute and a half into the second half which, for me, is a clear goal. For me it is a goal and there is no obstacle that justifies invalidation – he said.
PC Oliveira agrees with the post
Participating in Troca de Passes, PC Oliveira, a reporter for Globo channels, agreed with the over-the-top call.
