“All the Colombians who are vaccinated served for the greatest experiment that has been carried out in the entire history of humanity,” the Minister said before the congressmen of the First Commission of the Senate of the Republic.
The statements occurred in the midst of a debate on political control of Guillermo Jaramillo over the issue of drug shortages in the country, in which senators such as David Luna, from Cambio Radical, presented different solutions so that the country can have access to more drugs developed worldwide.
However, the Minister of Health assured that the approval and use of medicines at the national level, developed by Invima, cannot be a process that is carried out in a hurry.
“We cannot believe that because one thing was approved in the United States and Europe, we run out to approve everything that appears out there. The countries of Europe and the United States, which were so serious, Dr. Luna and Dr. Motoa, have been lowering their quality. They are finishing and updating products in phase II, when before it was in phase III. Why are they putting themselves under such pressure? Why don’t they finish their studies? “Why do they carry them out until stage II when scientific studies must always be completed in stage III?” Minister Jaramillo questioned.
This discussion was what led the official to talk about anticovid vaccines, about which he reiterated that the Colombians were part of an experimentation. “We are playing with the lives of Colombians, we cannot be a factor in experimentation. This happened to all of us who are vaccinated today, with the exception of those who took Sinovac. “All the vaccines entered here without permission, we became an experiment,” he added before the senators.
He concluded by saying that “we cannot continue experimenting with the Colombian community, and even less so with the indigenous people, with the blacks, the peasants and the poorest in this country.”

Meanwhile, Senator David Luna, who was part of the discussion with the Minister during the political control debate in the First Commission, published a tweet in which he questioned him for wanting to conspire on the issue.
“Yesterday I summoned Minister Guillermo Jaramillo to political control due to the shortage of medicines. His response revealed a conspiratorial stance, a desire to ideologize and nationalize the health system just when his reform is being voted on in the Chamber. You will never have my vote or wink in the Senate. Minister, President Petro promised change. The real change is making,” said Luna.
What do the experts say?
He explained that given how delayed the study and verification processes of medicines or vaccines can be in normal situations, the World Health Organization took the lead during the pandemic, carried out tests and recommended biological ones to the countries, to which they they could be accommodated.
“Countries can take these recommendations once the WHO and the experts review all the documentation about the products, vaccines in this case,” he commented, making it clear that the vaccines applied in Colombia had the approval and guarantee of the international institution in charge of ensure health.
For its part, the Acin Nacional, an association that brings together infectious disease doctors, microbiologists, and nursing professionals, also reacted to the controversial statements of the health minister.
