On Friday, the police in Troms took action against three people suspected of having what the police refer to as central roles in a controversial Snapchat group. Videos showing gross violence and videos of a sexual nature are shared on the group. Several of the videos are local and the police have recognized several of those involved.
The three suspects are all aged between 15 and 18 and live in Troms. They all had their phones confiscated in the action.
“The police will interrogate these three. The police have also secured an overview of the members of the Snapchat group, and are now considering what measures should be taken against other members of the group,” the police report in a press release.
To Nordlys, police attorney Jacob Bergh says that they hope to interrogate the three suspects during the week.
– The seizures were made on Friday afternoon.
Calls for deletion
Bergh encourages parents to talk to young people both to clarify whether they may have been exposed to the material, and whether they have saved or shared it.
“Some of the material shared in the group is of such a nature that it could be a criminal offense to have it on your own phone. It can also be a criminal offense to share this,” says Bergh.
The police urge those who have the material stored to delete it.
Notified
It was the mother of a 15-year-old girl who notified the police about the case last week. She had then been made aware of the content via her daughter.
– She came into the room crying with her mobile phone. There she both showed and told about what she had seen, the woman told Nordlys.
She wishes to remain anonymous for the sake of her daughter.
– There were videos and children in the group from Tromsø, Balsfjord and the surrounding municipalities, among other things. It may be that there was content from other places in the country as well, but there is no doubt that there was a lot of local content that was shared, said the woman.
