Controversial Referral Decisions Allow Tottenham Hotspur to Secure Vital Win Against Brighton

Tottenham Hotspur got away with a win on Saturday as they cruised to a 2-1 win over Brighton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in controversial style.

Brighton manager Robert De Zerbi will feel bad about poor referral decisions. De Zerbi and Tottenham caretaker manager Cristian Stellini were sent off shortly before game time, adding to the intense atmosphere at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Controversial decisions go against the seagulls

The Seagulls had several decisions against them, including a penalty that was not awarded and two goals disallowed due to VAR.

Social media was on fire throughout the match, with Premier League fans furious over the injustices done to Brighton.

Tottenham opened the scoring in the 10th minute through South Korean striker Heung-min Son with a spectacular goal.

The goal was Son’s 100th in the Premier League. Brighton’s Lewis Dunk equalized after 34 minutes, giving the Gulls what they deserved. Dunk’s goal came from a well worked corner routine.

As the game headed into the final 12 minutes, the Spurs found the lead thanks to Harry Kane. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg created space down the right flank and fed the ball back to Kane in the penalty area.

Kane spiked the ball and got a lucky deflection as the shot went past Brighton goalkeeper Jason Steele to put Spurs back in the lead.

In the 89th minute, Clement Lenglet appeared to have fouled Dunk in the penalty area, but referee Stuart Atwell signaled for play to continue.

Spurs cling to a vital win

Spurs held on for a 2-1 win and are now four games unbeaten.

The match was billed as a top-four battle, with both teams battling it out for next season’s Champions League qualification. The win leaves Spurs in fifth place and three points behind Manchester United in the race for the top four.

Brighton slipped to seventh and could drop to eighth if Liverpool beat Arsenal on Sunday. De Zerbi was furious and the manager must now turn his attention to getting the team back on track before next weekend’s trip to Chelsea.
