A commercial on Ikea’s Facebook page arouses strong reactions. It is written by VG, who has also published the film.
In the film, we see a living room taken straight out of an Ikea catalogue, complete with the names and prices of the products from Ikea, before we land on a woman lying sprawled on a sofa and throwing up several times in a bucket.
“Life is not an Ikea catalogue” states the furniture giant and follows up with a message that they have removable sofa covers that can be washed.
Several have taken to the comments section below the video to express their disgust. VG has spoken to Andrea Elise Hemmingsen Gangså, who is one of them.
– I find it unpleasant, especially for those of us who struggle with what is called emetophobia (phobia of throwing up, editor’s note). Then it doesn’t take much to trigger a panic attack, she says.
Marketing manager for Ikea Norway, Celin Kjenslie, writes in an email to VG that they understand the reactions.
– Our intention is not to offend or offend anyone. We continuously work to create commercials that are inclusive and respect everyone.
