Cairo (CNN) A film festival set to take place in Iran has been canceled because of an “inappropriate poster”. The Iranian state news agency (IRNA) reported on the 22nd.

The 13th festival of the Iranian Short Film Association (ISFA) has been canceled. The poster featured a photo of a woman without a hijab, a cloth that covers her hair.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance said in a statement that the use of the photos had been ruled illegal, according to IRNA.

The photo is a promotional poster of a scene from the 1982 Iranian film “Death of Yazdgerd,” showing the face of actress Susan Taslimi, according to French news agency AFP.

A video of a woman showing the poster without a hijab at the ceremony went viral on government-run social media channels. It is not clear when the ceremony was held.

The spokesman said the poster was created before the hijab was made compulsory, but said it was against the public interest to put up the poster at a time when hijab refusal was becoming an issue.

In September last year, an Iranian woman died after being detained by the moral police for not wearing a hijab. It was pointed out that protest demonstrations spread all over the country as a result of this, and the moral police had virtually disappeared from the city of Tehran, the capital. But state media reported on Monday that the moral police would resume patrols to crack down on women breaking the dress code.
