At the last minute, he helped the national team advance to the Euros, but otherwise he remains one of the most controversial figures in the domestic top football competition. Pilsen striker Tomáš Chorý is once again the target of criticism for a hard-to-understand short-circuit, all the more so because he once again got away without a red card.
The 27th minute of Wednesday’s Fortuna:League play-off between Mladá Boleslav and Plzeň was underway, when home goalkeeper Matouš Trmal caught the ball in the corner of the box in front of the overtaking Chorý.
But he did not brake and although he had enough time to avoid the goalkeeper, he stepped on his foot. In addition, he immediately fell down and pretended to be injured.
Trmal immediately took off sharply on Choré and fouled him, referee Jan Všetečka immediately awarded the tall forward a yellow card. The appeals of the home bench for possible intervention of the video referee and the subsequent exclusion were in vain.
“Senseless stepping on the goalkeeper when he had the ball in his hand. That’s more of a question for the referee and VAR specialists,” Mladá Boleslav coach Marek Kulič pointed out. “If there’s no red card for this, it’s a mockery,” said defender Martin Suchomel.
The moment resonated strongly on social networks. It was far from the first time that the 28-year-old Chorý performed a similarly pointless “blink”, while he has never received a red card in his career.
Two months ago, his clash with Asger Sörensen from Sparta was resolved, Chorý was not punished in the match, but according to the referees’ commission, he should have been expelled.
He had a similar incident with the Danish stopper more than a year ago, even then, according to the commission, he should have received a red card.
“Tomáš Chorý is a specific player for me. If he keeps getting away with it, I don’t understand it. His saves are beyond the mark. We know what he showed against Sparta Asger. But I don’t want to discuss it any further,” said Suchomel, who is currently on loan in Boleslav from Sparta.
In the end, Plzeň won 3:1 in Mladá Boleslav, and the referees’ committee stated in a communiqué on Thursday that Choré’s intervention was not a disqualification.
“The referee correctly awarded a yellow card to the player of the visiting team, Choré, for unsportsmanlike behavior. He attacked the goalkeeper of the home team in an unsportsmanlike manner without being able to play the ball – he slightly tripped him with his right foot. Even though it might have appeared that way from one shot of the camera, the goalkeeper was not stepped on. Due to a lower due to the intensity of the clash, it was not gross unsportsmanlike conduct,” the commission said.
