Controversial Penalty Saves PSG from Defeat vs Newcastle – Watch the Video of Mbappe’s Penalty

Paris

From Paris Saint-Germain vs Newcastle United ended 1-1, aka no winner. The Magpies’ lead disappeared in the final minute through a controversial penalty.

From PSG vs Newcastle took place fiercely at the Parc des Princes, Paris, France, Wednesday (29/11/2023) early morning WIB. The hosts trailed from the first half of the Group F match Liga Champions That.

Newcastle took the lead in the 24th minute through Alexander Isak’s goal. PSG was only able to reply in second half injury time. A penalty was given to the hosts after Newcastle player, Tino Livramento, was deemed to have handball, during a duel with Mbappe in the 16th box.

Handball is quite controversial. In the slow broadcast, it can be seen that Mbappe’s shot did not directly hit Livramento’s arm. The ball first went to the stomach, before hitting the Newcastle defender’s hand.

The referee then checked the VAR, and stated that Livramento was still handballing. Mbappe was able to execute the penalty, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

After the match, several pundits were furious. They think VAR is ruining the game again.

“Help me guys. This is absolute shit,” tweeted Newcastle legend Alan Shearer.

“How could that be a penalty for PSG,” quipped Gary Lineker on social media.

“Just kidding! The referee was really stupid. A disgusting decision that makes you wonder why we were so bothered,” tweeted former Sky Sports pundit Jeff Sterling.

A draw makes PSG and Newcastle United have the opportunity to qualify for the last 16 Liga Champions. Les Parisiens are still in second place in Group F with 7 points, followed by Newcastle (5) and AC Milan (5).
