The Philippines proudly presented a new campaign this week to lure tourists, but the accompanying commercial is mainly criticized. The company behind the video has used images from other countries.
It concerns the Love the Philippines campaign that the department of tourism kicked off this week. In the presence of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. a video was shown with all the highlights of the Southeast Asian country.
But attentive viewers saw that the video also included images from other countries, such as a plane landing in Switzerland, a fisherman in Thailand, a rice terrace in Bali and dunes in Dubai. The video was removed from Facebook, but was subsequently posted by others YouTube placed.
The advertising agency that made the video, DOB Philippines, has apologized and called it an “unfortunate mistake”, the Philippine newspaper reported. Philstar. “The use of those foreign stock images is highly inappropriate and contrary to the objectives of the Ministry of Tourism.”
The entire campaign would have cost more than 800,000 euros. According to the tourism ministry, no public money was used for the video. The ministry said in a response that it would not hesitate “to take the necessary measures to protect the interests of the country”.
The new campaign replaces the last one with the slogan “It’s More Fun in the Philippines”. No replacement promotional video has yet been made.
