Controversial iPad Pro ‘Crush’ Ad Draws Comparisons to 2008 LG Commercial

Controversial new iPad Pro ‘Crush’ ad might have been inspired by a 2008 LG ad

Apple may have taken inspiration from LG for controversial iPad Pro ad

Apple recently unveiled their new M4 iPad Pro during their “Let Loose” event. However, the promotional ad for the product has been receiving mixed reactions from the public. The ad showcases a hydraulic press crushing various items, such as musical instruments, camera lenses, and books, only to transform them into the new iPad Pro.

Interestingly, it appears that Apple may have drawn inspiration from an old LG ad that aired in 2008 to promote the KC910 Renoir smartphone. The LG ad featured a hydraulic press, similar to the Apple ad, destroying objects and converting them into the new phone. The resemblance between the two ads has not gone unnoticed by viewers.

“I’m shocked that Apple, with their substantial ad budget, seemingly copied LG’s idea from 2008. You’d think they’d come up with something more original,” expressed Andy Cheng on Threads.

As reported by 9to5Mac, the new iPad Pro ad has faced criticism from notable figures in the entertainment industry, including Hugh Grant and Asif Kapadia, who have raised concerns about the promotion of “the destruction of the human experience.” Many have questioned the decision behind the ad and accused Apple of undermining the work put in by writers, producers, filmmakers, and creators.

Apple later issued an apology for the controversial ad, emphasizing their commitment to creativity. They acknowledged that the ad missed the mark and although it remains available online, it will not be aired on television.
