Horizon Forbidden West has been in the news quite a bit this past week. It will probably be one of the biggest games to hit the PlayStation 5.
But in addition to the PlayStation 5, Horizon Forbidden West will also be released on the PlayStation 4. Last week However, it became clear that it wouldn’t be that easy to upgrade the game. Fortunately, Sony is now coming back to that.
Horizon Forbidden West upgrade to PlayStation 5 still possible
In the initial announcement, you could only upgrade Horizon Forbidden West from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 if you purchased the digital collector’s edition. Otherwise, the upgrade would not be possible. It’s a bit of a contentious decision and is grist to Microsoft’s mill. Because with those game consoles it is very easy to make the upgrade. Without having to incur additional costs. Fortunately, Sony is now back to the first choice

Because on the PlayStation Blog one now returns to the earlier decision. Originally, it was intended that games that would appear on the PlayStation 4 this year also receive a free upgrade to the PlayStation 5. But Horizon Forbidden West isn’t coming until 2022 now and that would make the game different. They are now coming back to that and it will be possible to make a free upgrade for that game as well.
Then other options
You can upgrade Horizon Forbidden West to the PlayStation 5 for free, but that will no longer be the case for future games that are published by Sony itself. Games like Gran Turismo 7 and the new God of War can be upgraded, but then it will cost you ten euros. So you still have a less good deal than with Microsoft. However, there is a good chance that you will actually have such a game console at home by mid-2022 and therefore no longer need to upgrade.
Horizon Forbidden West will not get a standard PlayStation 5 upgrade
