Hitler outrage at college football
Before the college football game between Michigan State University and the Michigan Wolverines had even started, the loser was already clear: the Spartans from the state educational institution.
As is usual in American sports leagues, the fans were entertained with a program before kick-off. A quiz was also played, with the questions and answers shown on the XXL video screen. And many of the spectators on site couldn’t believe their eyes when Adolf Hitler suddenly appeared…
The question: “Which country was Adolf Hitler’s birth?” When the answer was shown as Austria, the portrait of the dictator of Nazi Germany was suddenly shown on the screen. A scandal!
This has now also been recognized by the Spartans themselves. Athletics Director Matt Larson commented on the incident as follows: “MSU is aware that inappropriate content from a third source was shown on the video board before the start of the game.” And further: “We deeply regret the incident because he does not represent the values of our football program or the university.”
The fact that the first consequences have already been drawn shows that these are not just empty words. The university announced that in the future it would no longer work with the provider that was previously responsible for the content. The Spartans announced, “MSU will implement more rigorous review and approval processes for all videoboard content.”
Not the only mistake the university made that day. The Spartans clearly lost the game against their arch-rivals with 0:49 and now have two wins and five defeats after seven games. The Wolverines are completely different. The team was able to expand its record to 8-0.
