Controversial Fighter Viktoria Dudakova’s Dangerous Disease and UFC 294 Fight in Abu Dhabi

Although until now she was often referred to in the media as one of the most beautiful MMA fighters, now she can be described as one of the biggest cheaters. Russian Viktoria Dudakova should not be allowed to fight in her last fight at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi. She hid a dangerous disease and endangered her health and that of her rival. She boasted about her “cleverness” at a press conference.

The fight between Russian Victoria Dudakova and American Jinh Yu Frey at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi turned out to be controversial not only because of what preceded it. Dudakowa, who could not go to this fight with her country’s flag, reminded the world about who she is with the song that accompanied her on her way to the cage.

“I am Russian for the good of the world”

Fans in the United Arab Emirates and those watching TV heard the recording “I am a Russian” by a Russian singer nicknamed Shaman. We wrote about the song whose lyrics are “you can’t break me because I’m Russian” and “I’m Russian for the good of the world” HERE.

Interestingly, the ban on displaying the flags of one’s country has been in force in the UFC since Russia invaded Ukraine, i.e. since February last year. The head of the organization, Dana White, resisted such a rule at first, but eventually introduced it for everyone. The ban was lifted in October this year, but some players did not know about the change, others were unable to buy their country’s flag at the last minute. There weren’t many flags at UFC 294, although Islam Makhachev attracted attention after winning the fight of the evening. He is a player who publicly supports Ramzan Kadyrov, the Chechen leader and close associate of Vladimir Putin. Kadyrov is his friend.

However, after the gala it turned out that it was not only the issue of flags and Russian songs praising Russia that caused considerable controversy. They were aroused by Dudakowa, who won her fight with Jinh Yu Frey and at a press conference decided to share with journalists the difficulties she had to overcome in preparation for it. She honestly explained and explained, among others: because she failed to lose weight for the fight with the American.

“After the fight, my ass was completely bloody.”

Weight problems were visible the day before the fight. During the weigh-in, the Russian needed to use a veil because she decided to take off her swimsuit top. Despite this, she was still unable to meet the 115-pound (52.1 kg) limit. She was 0.6 pounds (0.27 kg) short of the strawweight limit. As a punishment, she had to give her opponent 20 percent. remuneration. She entered the fight and won it by unanimous decision of the judges.

Dudakowa was very pleased that she triumphed for the eighth time in her eighth professional MMA appearance and decided to honestly explain to journalists the mistake with the scale and reveal the background of the difficult preparations.

– I’m glad that the fight was mainly standing, because I probably wouldn’t have been able to do it on the ground. I have been battling a staph infection for the past month. I was exhausted. I have this infection in places you don’t look. After the fight, my butt was completely bloody because abscesses had opened in the octagon – she described to journalists, indicating that it was about intimate places. She also admitted that she left the matter to herself because she knew she would not be allowed to fight.

– After the fight, UFC doctors saw blood and asked what was going on, so I said it was a staph infection. They scolded me and my coach, why I hadn’t reported it earlier, and admitted that they wouldn’t let me fight. I hate canceling or postponing fights, so I didn’t talk about the problem. Of course, we tried various methods, including home ones, to fight the infection. I took expensive antibacterial drugs, but nothing helped, I didn’t want to take antibiotics because they would make me very weak, the Russian explained. She noted that the infections made her feel weak, her heart hurt and she knew she could no longer lose weight because she might not qualify for the fight. The athlete said all this with pride, sometimes a slight smile and a sense of triumph.

Dudakowa was also praised by her coach. – 99 percent of athletes in such a condition would have given up fighting long ago, but Wika is a fighter. We can say that we have reached our goal, said Hasanali Hasanaljew.

UFC president furious. For the lie or its disclosure?

Dudakowa decided to hide her illness because she did not want to lose the fight. It probably helped her that there is no medical sports commission in Abu Dhabi, and the gala was entirely regulated by the UFC and, as you can see, it took a relaxed approach to medical tests. In the case of a staphylococcal infection, doctors should not allow a duel out of concern for the patient, but also for the rival.

Staphylococcal infections often occur as a result of disruption of the skin covering and the bacteria entering the bloodstream, which is facilitated by weakened immunity and general fatigue. During MMA fights, smaller and larger cuts are the norm, and contact with the opponent is strong, especially during ground techniques. There are no statistics on this matter, but there seem to be many cases of mixed martial arts fighters fighting staphylococcus. Sometimes, as in the case of Tim Schultz, these are dramatic cases.

Dudakowa’s statement angered UFC president Dana White, who, however, commented on the matter in his characteristically ambiguous manner.

– If someone is going to lie and hide such things, let them keep it to themselves until they get home. Why does someone lie first and then sit here at a conference and say they had staph. Honestly, this is a f*cking weird thing. Very strange, White said. Was he angry at hiding the infection from doctors, or more at sharing this information with the world? You can guess. His argument sounded a bit like a message: if you want to lie, lie to the end. White said nothing about possible consequences for players who withheld important health information. Fighters, because after the same gala and fight between Mike Breeden and Anshul Jubli, it turned out that the former was also suffering from a staph infection, he also did not make weight, but he won his fight. Interestingly, before the UFC 294 gala, one of the fighters withdrew from the fight due to… staphylococcus and the third surgery he had to undergo within three weeks. The unlucky one was Paulo Costa, so a replacement was needed against Khamzat Chimaev.

When asked whether the UFC needs to change its medical policy towards fighters to avoid a similar situation in the future, White replied no, because his organization organizes a gala every week and the scale of such problems is not large.

A year ago, in an interview after the fight at UFC Las Vegas, Ilir Latifi admitted that he was infected with staphylococcus during the fight and showed his swollen foot, the UFC practically did not react. However, this was done by the Nevada Athletic Commission, the commission that controls combat sports in the state of Nevada. She was the one who temporarily suspended the player for “knowingly participating in a competition with a staphylococcal infection.”

Staphylococcus infections (aureus and cutaneous) can lead to dangerous diseases. These include inflammation of the lungs, urinary tract, trachea and heart muscle. Cutaneous staphylococcus can lead to nephritis. Staph infections can also be life-threatening if the microorganism penetrates deeper into the body.
