the essentials in brief

The new “Barbie” film by director Greta Gerwig has been in the cinemas since last week. The strip about the famous toy doll heats up men’s minds in particular. A Twitter user has now made film posters from the hate comments – and is going viral.

The “Barbie” film by director Greta Gerwig makes the box office sound decent. The live-action film about a trip by the famous toy doll is causing a lot of discussion on the internet. The strip doesn’t seem to go down well with men in particular.

Because: In the film, gender roles are swapped. In reality, the overwhelming majority of positions of power are still held by men. In the pink “Barbie” country, on the other hand, leadership positions in politics, science and business are occupied by women.

And that heats up male tempers, as a look at the comments on social networks shows. A Twitter user is now beating the hate comment writers with their own weapons: He collected 1-star ratings on the film network “Letterboxd” and made film posters out of them.

Hate becomes comedy – and the internet laughs its ass off.

Twitter user TechnicallyRon took a look at the one-star ratings for the Barbie film on Letterboxd. From some of them he made movie posters. “It makes the film look even cooler,” he wrote on Twitter. “A pink LSD trip that feels like being slapped by a bunch of bewilderingly attractive people,” is one of the critiques he’s used.

Above the heads of the two main actors Margot Robbie (33) as Barbie and Ryan Gosling (42) as Ken is now something like: “An alienating, dangerous and perverse film” or “The feminist agenda will kill us all”.

Have you seen the new Barbie movie yet?

A third poster informs: “You will not be happy until we are all homosexual”. And a fourth: “A pink LSD trip that feels like being slapped by a bunch of bewilderingly attractive people.”

The film posters with the hate comments went viral: the tweet has had over 16.2 million views so far – and the majority of them are enthusiastic.
