Jakarta –
Art exhibition it has an interesting installation. Travelers who want to enter the theater have to squeeze past two naked people.
BBC reported, quoted on Sunday (23/9/2023), that is what travelers visiting the Royal Academy exhibition must do. This unusual installation is part of a career retrospective of Serbian performance artist Marina Abramovic.
There is a separate entrance for those who feel uncomfortable passing by naked artists.
Art exhibition this received a mixed response from critics. The Guardian called it “important” but the Times said it was “relentless”.
“Entering between two naked performers forces those with tickets into a confrontation between nudity, gender, sexuality, desire,” said the Royal Academy’s head of exhibitions, Andrea Tarsia.

This unusual work was first performed in 1977 by Abramovic and her German colleague Ulay. The couple stood close together in the doorway, forcing visitors to pass between them.
The Telegraph’s critic, Alastair Sooke, said he was “too busy not stamping his feet” to sense whether there were any vibrations as he passed the installation in London.
“You don’t have to go through an empty gate. There are shortcuts, but they’re cheating,” added the Times’ Laura Freeman.
“I barged in, sucked my stomach in, tried not to step on anyone’s toes or touch anything,” he added.
This retrospective draws on Abramovic’s half-century career. She was the first female artist to have a solo exhibition in the Royal Academy’s main gallery in its 255 year history.
Ben Luke of the Evening Standard awarded it four stars, writing: “For once, it’s not hype. I can’t imagine a better look, especially considering the bulk of it is a documentary of the show”.
