The deployment planning is a “major order” for the state police department in Tyrol, says its spokesman Stefan Eder. In addition to his colleagues, officers from Vorarlberg and Salzburg as well as police students in the second training phase will also be on duty for the controls from Thursday.
Checkpoints bei Pass Thurn, Hochfilzen, Pass Strub
According to the Interior Ministry, the reviews of travelers should take place at fixed and mobile locations on state and federal roads near the border with other federal states and other EU countries. There is currently no precise information about how and where exactly Austrian and international train traffic from Tyrol is controlled.
In general, the following applies: To support the police, the armed forces’ assistance operations within Tyrol are being expanded. Numerous Salzburg soldiers from the “Command Support Battalion 2” from St. Johann (Pongau) and from the air surveillance in Salzburg had also been requested, says Rene Auer, spokesman for the Salzburg military command.
Also on Tyrol’s international borders
According to the armed forces and police, most soldiers are deployed at the state borders with South Tyrol (Italy) and Bavaria (Germany), and a hundred also at the borders between Tyrol and Vorarlberg and Salzburg. There they are supposed to do their job at four “border” locations in Tyrol: Schnann am Arlberg, Hochfilzen, Pass Thurn, Gerlos and Waidring near the Salzburg community of Lofer (Pinzgau). There are mobile test stations for those wishing to leave the country who cannot yet show any negative CoV test results.
