From the end of June to the beginning of August 2020, the Zurich canton police carried out targeted controls across the entire canton, focusing on vehicles with illegally modified exhaust systems. 87 cars have been shut down and silencers have been confiscated.
In a total of 17 controls, in which special attention was paid to non-type or manipulated exhaust systems, 109 vehicles had to be complained about.
In order for the 85 cars that have been put out of circulation to be redeemed again, the keepers have to reset their motor vehicles at their own expense in a proper condition. The vehicles must then be checked at the Road Traffic Office, which, in the event of a positive result, will order them to be put into circulation.
Two vehicles had to be secured for technical vehicle inspections. The necessary examinations were carried out by specialists from the Technische Verkehrszug der Zurich Canton Police carried out.
In all cases, criminal charges were reported to the responsible governor’s offices.
As part of the police controls, around 700 kilograms of illegal silencing systems were dismantled and then properly disposed of or secured for the attention of the investigating authorities.
