On Sunday afternoon, a traffic stop took place on the country road 3196 between Steinau and Marjoß in the Spessart region, where mainly motorcycles were the target. The special thing about this is that motorcycles are only allowed to drive on this road section at 60 km/h, while other road users are allowed to drive up to 100 km/h. Not surprising in itself, of course, we have similar speed differences for vehicles on our highways. Take trucks for example. But we are not used to motorcyclists having to maintain lower speeds than other drivers.
max. 100 km/h allowed for cars and 60 km/h for motorcyclists
As the route is considered a motorcyclist crash site, most of the route in this area was limited to 60 km/h (motorcyclists only) and this was also monitored over the weekend. According to media reports, a total of 76 motorcyclists were arrested, ten of whom were allegedly speeding. Unfortunately, it is currently unclear how many motorcyclists used the route, were not stopped and were not speeding.
Speed camera on Passo Giau raised half a million euros in 2021
The fastest speed was measured on a 26-year-old KTM rider. After deducting the tolerance, it was measured at 119 km/h, which is almost twice the speed limit. If one changed the point of view and he had driven a passenger car, he would not have measured too fast at 59 km/h, but at 19 km/h too much. The motorcycle ride now costs him two points in Flensburg, a fine of 480 euros and a driving ban of one month.
Furthermore, motorcycle number plates were found to be set too steeply, but they were all still within the tolerance margin. In terms of volume, one Harley and one passenger car stood out. Measurements showed that the volume was still within the tolerance range.
In other words, watch out in Germany next summer. You may quickly overlook these kinds of situations, but they can become expensive.
