A few days ago, a case of imported dengue fever was reported in Couzon-au-Mont-d’or. To prevent the spread of the disease, the metropolis of Lyon decided to spray an insecticide in the vicinity of the place of this discovery.
Last night, a mosquito control campaign was launched in the streets of Couzon-au-Mont-d’Or, a town near Lyon. The objective of this operation is to fight against the tiger mosquito, potentially carrying the dengue, Zika and chikungunya viruses, which is present in the region.
Indeed, a case of imported dengue was detected in the town. The infected person was bitten during a stay in Martinique. It is important to take steps to prevent transmission of the disease, as the dengue virus can remain in the blood of the sick person for 7 days.
Within a radius of 150 meters around the place of residence of this person, the metropolis of Lyon has decided to carry out an entomological survey. The objective is to verify the presence of the tiger mosquito on the premises. After spraying the insecticide last night, a check for the number of tiger mosquitoes was carried out in broad daylight.
To carry out this operation, the insecticide is sprayed from a specially dedicated vehicle, by the interdepartmental mosquito control agreement of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Residents were asked to bring in their laundry and their pets, as well as to clean their garden furniture and gardening products up to 3 days after the vehicle had passed.
It should be noted that Couzon-au-Mont-d’Or is the 5th municipality in the Rhône to benefit from this treatment since the beginning of May.
