Control is disappointed that Vitesse goes for another coach: ‘Was already thinking about next season’ | NOW

Edward Sturing regrets that he will no longer be a Vitesse trainer next season. The club icon of the Arnhemmers was already preparing for the new season in his head.

Sturing has been an interim coach since the end of December – a position he previously held – and was asked by the new technical director Johannes Spors if he was interested in being a trainer next season.

“He said that there were several candidates. I thought and thought: I am 57 years old, it is a great opportunity to be head coach again,” Sturing told NU.nl.

“I am disappointed that I did not become one, but that is also up to me. When I am asked, I am someone who will immediately think about how I will see the team next season.”

The Apeldoorner already had many things lined up for the new season. “I thought about who’s leaving, about getting youth players to train, arranging a training camp and writing down the preparation. While I was not sure I was going to be.”

‘Not sure that I will be head of training’

Steering, who played for Vitesse during most of his career, is retained for the club. He is a candidate to work as head of training.

“But it is not yet certain that I will do that. It is true that that function will be released, so the link will soon be made,” said the trainer, who emphasizes that he does not just accept an offer for that role.

“For me it is important to know what it looks like and what is expected of me. The picture has to be right, because in the end I am someone who prefers to be on the field.”

Sturing and Vitesse were in seventh place when it was decided to end the Eredivisie season. The Arnhemmers took this next to European football.
