Crevits strongly contradicts the fact that the Flemish government does nothing for people in Joke’s situation. “I know it is sometimes said that there is no money for people on waiting lists, but that is not true. The budgets are there. Every year I have surpluses because people sometimes only receive help for six months or only from the end of the year “The surpluses enable us to help people like Joke, especially in that last phase of their lives.”
Crevits even wants people who have an acute care need to automatically receive a budget increase. “If you apply now to receive extra help and it takes months before an answer comes, then it is sometimes too late. I am not in favor of new additional procedures, but I do want to see how existing ones can be improved. The updated emergency procedure exists now six months, I want to see what can be improved, especially for questions that also involve a complex medical need.”
