Characteristics demonstrated by Franco Alfieri, president of the Province of Salerno and mayor of Capaccio Paestum, who has been in prison since dawn yesterday morning. The words are from Valeria Campanile, investigating judge who signed the precautionary custody order requested by Alessandro Di Vico, prosecutor in charge of the investigations into the contracts piloted in Capaccio Paestum. «With me you sleep on four pillows, because when the devil was born I was already holding the tail»: on 30 October last year the mayor of Pesto spoke thus in the presence of Andrea Campanile, a 27-year-old staff worker who was officially the politician’s driver but in fact he turned out to be his fixer, well versed in any administrative matter (“messenger”, as the investigating judge defines him), and of the Pagan engineer Carmine Greco, municipal manager born in 1963. Wrong prediction, that of the number one of Palazzo Sant’Agostino, known in the national news as “the frying man” due to the unfortunate exit a few years ago of the president of the regional council Vincenzo De Luca, who celebrated the ability of the lawyer from Torchiaro to gain consensus: while he is in Fuorni, the two interlocutors of that day at the end of autumn ended up under house arrest. Similar measures were applied against the sister of the mayor of Capacce, Elvira Alfieri from Torchiara, born in 1969, legal representative (the de facto administrator, according to the investigators, is her brother) of Alfieri Impianti, of Vittorio De Rosa from Rocche, born in ’58, owner of Dervit, and his fellow villager and special prosecutor Alfonso D’Auria, ’71. The deputy of the Prosecutor’s Office headed by Giuseppe Borrelli, in truth, had asked for prison for everyone: even for Carmine Landi, a 63-year-old engineer from Battipaglia, for whom the investigating judge did not recognize the existence of precautionary needs. At the same time, money and assets with a total value of just under 544 thousand euros in the possession of De Rosa (293,545 euros) and the Alfieri brothers (250,302) ended up seized.
