The Vegas Golden Knights announced that they have signed a three-year contract extension with defenseman Brayden McNabb. This new pact will bring him $3.65 million per year.
Vegas thus ensures to retain the services of a key defender and a good veteran, Brayden McNabb, who has been with the organization since his very first season in the NHL. McNabb, 33, could have tested the market, but the team opted to give him an extension before he became an unrestricted free agent at season’s end.
Selected by the Golden Knights in the 2017 expansion draft from the Los Angeles Kings, McNabb was initially a third-round pick of the Buffalo Sabers in 2009. He was traded to the Kings in 2014 before joining Vneitherwhere he has played seven seasons so far. He was an important part of the Golden Knights winning the Stanley Cup in 2023.
This extension allows Vegas to consolidate an already very complete defensive brigade. With McNabb, the Knights now have seven defensemen under contract for next year. Their solid core, including Alex Pietrangelo, Noah Hanifin, Shea Theodore, Zach Whitecloud and McNabb, is secured for at least three years, guaranteeing stability and experience. Although McNabb is not an offensive defender, he excels in his defensive role thanks to his imposing physique, his exemplary positioning and his reading of the game. These qualities make him a very reliable player to counter the best opposing attackers. The extension also gives him a notable salary increase, of just under $1 million per year.
