We will not support the mandate of GERB and obviously we would not offer our personality in it either, Daniel Laurer from the parliamentary group of “Continuing the change-Democratic Bulgaria” (PP-DB) commented on the sidelines of the parliament in connection with the nomination of European Commissioner Maria Gabriel as a candidate – prime minister, which GERB-SDS announced earlier today, BTA reported.
“Our main promise to the voters was not to allow GERB representatives into the executive branch, he emphasized, recalling that even before the elections they decided not to support a cabinet with a GERB-SDS mandate and this has nothing to do with the candidate that GERB would proposed for prime minister,” Laurer also said.
According to him, Maria Gabriel fulfills her tasks as European Commissioner with dignity, and to some extent it was surprising for the PP-DB that she preferred to accept the nomination for Prime Minister with the first term of the GERB, for which a large part of the political forces were clear that she would not support regardless of who the person is. “Precisely because of the serious history that GERB carries with it”, commented the deputy.
Laurer drew attention to the fact that from the conversations they held, it became clear that they had no serious differences with GERB on the management and legislative program. According to him, the differences are in who has the trust of the people to run the country. “PP-DB have repeatedly stated that this is not GERB”, the deputy pointed out
He specified that, to a large extent, the personality in this case does not matter, because Maria Gabriel is not the only person in GERB who fulfills her duties with dignity. The issue is fundamental, we have given our voters a principled position that the first mandate will not be supported due to the lack of trust in the entire GERB party, and not in individual individuals in it, noted Daniel Laurer.
When asked whether they would not take advantage of the opportunity to propose Asen Vassilev as finance minister in the “Gabriel” cabinet, the PP-DB representative indicated that this would happen if a second term was reached. Nikolay Denkov would propose Vassilev as finance minister because his expertise, not because he’s co-chair of Continuing the Change. With the second term, there’s no problem, we’ve had these preliminary conversations with them to show them both the composition and the agenda and the legislative goals of this term, Laurer added. And he reminded that they have the opportunity to exercise control through the National Assembly.
According to Daniel Laurer, it is not good to have new early parliamentary elections.
