NEW YORK — After a weekend of storms, the daily rain trend could continue in parts of the tri-state area on Monday, with some showers becoming heavy at times.

More rounds of scattered storms are expected overnight, possibly lingering until kickoff of the Jets’ game against Buffalo at MetLife Stadium at 8 p.m. At times, there is a chance for heavy downpours, which could lead to flash flooding .

At the Bills game against the Jets at MetLife Stadium, a shelter-in-place warning was issued around 5:30 p.m. Due to inclement weather, guests are advised to stay in their cars first.

The stadium is now recommending visitors seek shelter in their cars or inside the stadium.

A flood watch is in effect for New York City, as well as neighboring counties in northeastern New Jersey, Long Island, the Hudson Valley and Connecticut. There could be up to 3 inches of rain in locations affected by slow-moving precipitation showers. Some thunder and lightning are possible, although destructive winds are not expected. Urban areas, streams and places with poor drainage are most vulnerable to flooding.

A flash flood warning is in effect for parts of southern Westchester County and eastern Bergen County until 8:45 p.m.

By 6 pm, thunderstorms were moving through Hudson County.

Storms are expected to last until 9 p.m.

There will also be some showers and storms on Tuesday. Basically, the pattern remains unsettled with chances for afternoon and evening storms into Wednesday before we finally get a strong enough front to move through and clear things up. The front clears Wednesday, and after the showers and storms that should end early, humidity should begin to drop quickly and skies will clear.

It will be cooler and drier/comfortable starting Thursday. But then our attention turns to Hurricane Lee in the Atlantic. As of Monday, it appears the storm will remain far enough to the east to have minimal impacts on the tri-state area, although the New England coast could be buffeted by the edge of the storm.

What Lee, a Category 3 hurricane, will do in the New York area is keep things dry and breezy for several days, assuming it maintains its current track. It could bring some waves and rough surf to those along the coast, with maximum impacts expected from late Friday afternoon into early Saturday.

What is the forecast for the next 10 days?
