The multi-generation house “Generation Center Matthias Ehrenfried” can continue its successful work in the next eight years. The Federal Ministry of Family Affairs announced the continuation of funding for multi-generation homes to the extent it has been for the follow-up program from 2021. This comes from a press release.
“This is good and important news for the city of Würzburg, especially in the current time when numerous offers and facilities are closed and many do not know how to proceed,” said Paul Lehrieder, a member of the Bundestag in Würzburg.
During the Corona crisis, the multi-generational houses showed their strength to be able to react flexibly and quickly to special situations: They spend adapted help offers such as telephone networks against loneliness, neighborhood and shopping aids, develop online offers for existing group offers, especially for seniors, and organize, for example the continuation of local boards. The head of the generation center Matthias Ehrenfried, Jürgen Krückel, is also pleased with the funding.
The federal multi-generation house program is in the last funding year. Many sponsors eagerly awaited whether and under what conditions the federal funding would continue. So far, federal funding has been approved for four years. What is new is that federal funding has now been promised over eight years, “said Krückel.
Up to and including 2019, the houses funded in the federal multi-generational house program each received up to EUR 40,000 a year, of which EUR 30,000 from the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth and EUR 10,000 from the respective municipality, district and / or (pro rata ) from land.
This mandatory co-financing promotes the embedding of the multi-generation house in the community and strengthens the role of the houses as community actors. In 2020, all multi-generation houses will receive a federal grant increased by 10,000 euros, so that together with the co-financing, they will have up to 50,000 euros in total at their disposal.
The Generations Center is one of around 540 sponsored houses across Germany and the only multi-generation house in Würzburg supported by the federal government. In total, almost 37,000 volunteers across Germany are now involved in the multi-generation houses, with whose help over 21,000 offers are implemented and more than 60,000 people are reached every day.
These figures illustrate the importance of multi-generation houses, especially in the structurally weak regions where the majority of houses are located. In the structurally strong regions, multi-generation houses are also facing the challenges of demographic change, the report concludes.
