The rescue authorities are digging holes in two places in the ground to check for signs of survival of the two isolated workers.

Drilling takes place at an average depth of 30 m in 12 hours and must be carried out to a depth of 170 m underground.

The goal could be reached already today (31) afternoon, but it is difficult to establish the times.

“Through the hole, we can illuminate and communicate with them and we can guarantee a space to carry the necessary objects”.

Access to rescue is ongoing 24 hours a day.

The remaining access road is now about 100 m in a straight line to reach the point where rescue is possible.

Rescue authorities removed the rocks in this section and completed connecting the tracks to transport them outside.

It is expected that the rail used in the previous mining operation can be used and the difficulty of the operation will be easier than before.

“We expect the geology to be softer here and the rocks to be smaller than before.”

In addition, since last night, four groups of four firefighters have been sent to support the rock removal work.

As the moment of the rescue is later than originally planned, the hearts of the family burn more and more.

President Yoon Seok-yeol urged them to do their best and insistently to do their best to save the Bonghwa mine at the Itaewon disaster management meeting.
