Conte’s complaint, alarm for Tottenham

Jakarta

Antonio Conte recently complained about the transfer policy Tottenham Hotspur. Don’t be surprised if he pulls out of North London at any moment before his contract expires.

Recently, Conte discussed Tottenham’s transfer policy in an interview with Sky Sport Italia. He considered that his team prioritized potential young players to be recruited rather than ready-made stars.

This can be seen from the movement in the January transfer market. Only two players were brought in, namely Rodrigo Bentancur (24 years) and Dejan Kulusevksi (21 years).

“Bentancur and Kulusevski are ideal prospects for Tottenham, because this team is looking for young players who can be developed, not finished players. This is the problem,” Conte said.

“This is the vision and philosophy of the club at the moment. It is undeniable that if we want to develop quickly and be competitive soon, we need experienced players, because they also raise the level of the team as a whole.”

“But I repeat, I realize now that this is our team’s vision.” Conte.

His open attitude to the public like this is nothing new. Conte known to be demanding when it comes to team building. If over time the club’s policies did not live up to what was promised to him, he did not hesitate to leave.

Juventus never experienced it in the summer of 2014. After winning the Scudetto three times, Conte decided to resign because he thought ‘Juventus can’t eat in a restaurant where food costs 100 euros if you only have 10 euros.’

That’s the term he uses to describe if you want to win the Champions League, you have to be willing to invest big. Juventus finally started to buy expensive players, but this only happened in the era of Massimiliano Allegri.

Inter Milan also feel it. Two seasons in charge there, Conte managed to lead the Nerazzurri to win Serie A, breaking Juventus’ dominance for nine years in a row.

But the title was won amid financial problems that befell the Suning Group as the owner of Inter. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, late salaries until bonuses are cut must also be felt by players.

Management’s decision to release Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi in order to help finance the club’s finances contributed to their departure Conte from Inter. Letting go of these two players is considered a decrease in the Nerazzurri’s competitive desire, despite the fact that Inter are still strong candidates for Serie A champions this season.

Not just in Italy, while in Chelsea Conte has also complained about the club’s transfer policy not complying with his wishes.

“I don’t have high hopes for my request, especially because so far I have rarely been given the players I asked for. I have always worked at a club that has austerity programmes,” Conte said in January 2018, his last season at Chelsea.

Chelsea finally fired Conte after failing to defend the Premier League title and failing to qualify for the Champions League. This sacking dispute resulted in the Blues having to pay more than 26 million Pounds to Conte and his staff.

Now, even though it’s only been three months in Tottenham, similar complaints have emerged from Conte’s mouth. He is contracted until June 2023, but his comments have sparked speculation over his North London future. Can he continue his commitment to building Tottenham? Let’s wait.
