content migrates to Prime Video

Amazon Freevee closes, integrated into Prime Video. Free content like Judy Justice will now be accessible on Prime Video. Here are all the details.

Amazon Freeveeformerly known as IMDb Freedivedebuted in 2019 offering a limited selection of free, ad-supported TV shows in countries like United States e United Kingdom. However, now Amazon has decided to shut down Freevee, going all in Prime Video. The transition will take place in the coming weeks, making Prime Video the one-stop shop for all content previously available on Freevee.

According to an article published by DeadlineAmazon is retiring Freevee and redirecting users directly to Prime Video. Freevee’s original programs, such as Judy Justice e High Schoolwill continue to be offered on the Prime Video platform, marked with a label “Free guard” to facilitate access even for non-Prime users. Amazon has made it clear that there will be no changes in content for Prime members, while non-members will still have a wide range of content available to them free streaming contentincluding originals of Amazon MGM Studioslicensed films and series, as well as numerous FAST channels.

The first rumors about this choice emerged when Amazon began introducing the advertisements also on Prime Video. With both platforms featuring ad-supported content, keeping Freevee as a separate service was no longer sustainable. The merger, therefore, fits into a context of simplification of Amazon’s offering, aimed at improving the users’ viewing experience.

Behind the scenes, Freevee teams have already been integrated into Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video. At the moment, no layoffs are planned, and Amazon seems more oriented towards a merger of the two platforms than an actual closure. The goal is to offer users a more integrated and hassle-free streaming experience.

It still remains to be seen whether free Prime Video content will be available in more countries and regions in the future. For now, the vast library of free content will remain accessible to users in the US and UK.
