On Sunday, November 5, at 3 p.m., the virtuoso Latvian ethnographic kokle player Laima Jansone and the talented Lithuanian multi-instrumentalist Saulius Petreikis will perform in Liepaja’s “Lielais dzintars” concert hall. The two musicians will demonstrate their ability to give a contemporary voice to ancient musical melodies in the “White Signs” concert program, which will include both Latvian and Lithuanian folklore motifs, lullabies and improvisations, the concert hall’s public relations specialist Anita Lazdeniece-Grīnberga informed the portal.
Laima Jansone, combining ancient ways of playing with exciting innovations, is a trailblazer in the Latvian traditional kokle game. She creates an inimitable world of sounds, where ethnographic and electric wood sounds merge with improvisations and various effects. Every performance of a kokletista is unique – a surprise and an adventure for both listeners and stage partners. In the upcoming concert, Laima will play different kokles, creating a space where both speed and impulsiveness alternate, as well as peace and the desire to go deeper into oneself.
Saulius Petreikis is one of the few European instrumentalists who knows how to play around 50 different woodwind instruments, which have come to his collection from different countries of the world, including ancient musical instruments of white peoples. In the musician’s masterful performance, such traditional and academic wind instruments as trumpet, duduk, bansuri, hulusi, various horns, lur or old Scandinavian horn, wooden trumpet, nejs, etc. will be heard.
