China is not an expansionist power and Washington’s desire to contain China is a strategic mistake. This is what the Singaporean scholar Kishore Mahbubani said recently in an interview with the French daily Le Figaro.
Makaishuo stressed that Asia and the rest of the world believe that the West has double standards on human rights. “It is doomed to fail officially to discuss human rights with the Chinese.”
Commenting on the tripartite relationship between China, the US and Europe, Makaishuo noted that the main threat to Europe today does not come from either Russia or China – the biggest threat is the explosive population growth in Africa. It is therefore in Europe’s interest to develop Africa and thus contain the new wave of migration. Such a wave of migration would encourage the growth of far-right parties. And to develop Africa, the best partner for Europe is China instead of the United States.
