80% of diabetics suffered from a lack of appropriate medical follow-up during confinement, says Dr Hamdoun Lhassani, president of the Moroccan Society of Endocrinology, Diabetology and Nutrition (SMEDIAN).

“Once this disease is detected in a person, he must go directly to treatment, diet and sport,” said the specialist, adding that this was not possible during the period of confinement since the sports activities were banned, the diet was not followed properly and medical checks were not followed as required. This impacted 80% of diabetics. People suffering from this disease could not follow the necessary periodic checks for various reasons: in addition to confinement, they were also afraid of catching the virus by accessing hospitals, laboratories or medical offices, which resulted 80% of diabetics have not followed their appropriate medical check-up, according to SMEDIAN data.
