After a difficult period, the Port of Barcelona traffic continues to reflect the recovery of the economy of its hinterland and maintain the upward trend started at the end of 2020. In this sense, during the first five months of this year, total traffic totaled 27,347,944 tons, a figure that represents a year-on-year increase of 15.2%.
More positive are the figures for container traffic, with a total of 1,505,303 until May, an increase of 30% compared to last year. They are also so if they are compared with those of May 2019, with a growth of 4%, surpassing the pre-pandemic figures. Likewise, export containers have grown by 21% during the first five months of the year; those for imports, 11%, while full containers in traffic experienced an increase of 57% compared to the same period in 2020.
The Port is registering positive figures in all traffic segments, except bulk liquids, which reflect the decline in natural gas and gasoline, and passengers. The latter will change trend after the recovery of cruise activity in the Port of Barcelona with the arrival of the MSC Grandiosa in the city last Saturday.
