Container freight rates from Asia are skyrocketing due to the suspension of Suez Canal navigation by major container shipping companies. Ships bound for Europe and the east coast of North America will be routed via the Cape of Good Hope, extending the length of their voyages, so the detour is expected to cause temporary disruption and tighter transport demand. On the other hand, looking at actual ship movements, it appears that some container ships are navigating the Red Sea and Suez Canal while being escorted.
