A container ship on its way to Antwerp dropped anchor in the North Sea last night after a bomb threat. The bomb should go off upon the ship’s arrival in Antwerp this evening.
The report about container ship ‘MSC Bhavya V’ was received last night at the port of Antwerp. The 300-meter-long ship was already on its way from Hamburg to the Belgian city, reports the Flemish news channel VRT. According to the report, there was an explosive device in a car on board. A spokesperson for the port of Antwerp does not want to provide any further information.
As a precaution, the ship is anchored at sea, a few dozen kilometers from the Zeeland coast. The Belgian federal police are investigating the report and do not want to say anything about it yet.
Previous bomb threat
In December last year a ship from the shipping company MSC also anchored after a bomb threat. That container ship was on its way from Senegal to Antwerp and had to turn around on the Western Scheldt. The MSC Lorena ultimately lay idle for a week off the coast of Breskens in Zeeland.
After investigation it turned out that it was a false report, but two weeks later more than 2,400 kilos of cocaine were found on board. Ultimately, two suspects were arrested.
