Container ship Ever Given now safely through Suez Canal

The ship was accompanied by experienced pilots and two tugs and is now on its way to China.

400 meters long

The Ever Given is on its way from the United Kingdom and has already visited Rotterdam on the way. The 400-meter-long ship is now in the Red Sea. It was the 22nd time that Ever Given has sailed through the Suez Canal.

During the blockade of the Suez Canal in March, it took about a week before the ship could be refloated: It went like this:

At that time there was a traffic jam of hundreds of ships and world trade was disrupted. A number of ships decided to circumnavigate Africa instead of through the Suez Canal.

Hundreds of millions of euros

The container ship did not leave the Suez Canal until early July due to legal disputes between the owner of the Ever Given and the canal authority over compensation.

As a result, Ever Given was chained for months. It is unclear exactly how much was paid, but it would be hundreds of millions of euros.
