Contact tracers only call the most contagious people, others receive text messages

With 60,000 infections per day, it is gradually becoming impossible for contact tracers to call every high-risk contact. That’s why the contact center is increasingly switching to texting so that the phone lines are available for incoming calls. VRT NWS reports this.

Because there are so many infections, it is impossible to call all infected persons and their high-risk contacts with the current capacity. That is why the contact center is replacing some of the telephones with text messages, according to a step-by-step plan determined in advance by the government. In this way, the contact investigators can focus on the highest risk of spreading.

At the moment people who have tested positive and who have a high viral load, and are therefore the most contagious, are called. The others get a text. All high-risk contacts also receive a text message. So you will no longer be called if someone close to you has tested positive, but you will receive a message. If there is capacity left, as many people as possible will still be called, emphasizes Joris Moonens of the Agency for Care & Health, but there is less and less space.
