Dutch consumers spent EUR 12.4 billion online on products and services in the first six months of the year. That is 4 percent more than a year earlier, according to figures from the branch organization Thuiswinkel.org on Friday.
Total online spending continued to decline in the first quarter, as much less was spent on airline tickets and travel. In the second quarter, however, so much more stuff was bought online that the drop in travel was more than offset.
The number of times that consumers paid for a trip or plane ticket online was more than a third lower in the second quarter than last year. For products, on average over all types of products something was ordered 50 percent more often.
The number of Dutch people who ordered something online has increased by about 800,000 to 12.5 million, according to Thuiswinkel.org, due to the partial lockdown – an increase of 7 percent.
