consumer sentiment lifted in April

(CercleFinance.com) – US consumer confidence improved in April in a context marked by uncertainty and the war in Ukraine, the final results of the University of Michigan’s monthly survey showed on Friday.

The confidence index calculated on the basis of this household survey came out at 65.2 this month, against 59.4 in March, a gain of 9.8%.

However, the University of Michigan clarified that this increase was mainly linked to the component measuring the judgment of consumers on their expectations, which rose to 62.5 from 54.3 last month.

‘The cause is a sharp drop in expectations for gasoline prices,’ explains Richard Curtin, the author of the survey.
