Consumer Reports 2022: Top 5 Most and Least Reliable Car Brands Revealed

Each year, Consumer Reports rates the reliability of each major vehicle model, and to compile its analysis, it polls a large group of people who have owned the makes and models of cars in question in the past 12 months. This year’s survey gives us information on the 5 most reliable and 5 most unreliable car brands for the past year. There are not a few surprises.

The first is that one of the most unreliable brands of the past year was none other than… Mercedes-Benz. It’s ranked second most unreliable, behind only Chrysler, which received a woeful average predicted reliability score of 18 out of 100. MB (23), Rivian (24), Volkswagen (26) and Jeep (26) round out the top five least reliable brands based on owner satisfaction surveys.

To put these rankings into context, we’re showing you the top five CR brands ranked by average predicted reliability. These are Lexus, Toyota, Mini, Acura and Honda, all of which score over 70 points, making them twice as reliable as many of the brands listed below, according to CR’s methodology. Interestingly, the survey is based on 20 questions for small and large problem areas.
