Consumer Forum: Government efforts have not succeeded in curbing price hikes (video)

Al-Akhbar (Nouakchott) – The Secretary-General of the Forum, Khalil Ould Khairy, said that the consumer is still facing the challenges of high prices and high prices, indicating that efforts have not succeeded so far in curbing the unjustified rise in prices and other aspects that are harmful to the Mauritanian consumer.

Ould Khairy added, during the inauguration of a symposium organized by the Mauritanian Consumer Forum, on Wednesday morning, in commemoration of the World Consumer Rights Day, that the World Consumer Rights Day coincides this year with positive indicators represented in the establishment of the agency entrusted with food control, in addition to what he described as the relative improvement in food control. Dealing with civil society organizations and approving some laws in the same direction.

Ould Khairy confirmed that the forum decided to commemorate World Consumer Day through various activities that last for a full week and focus mainly on sensitization and awareness of the rights and duties of the consumer.

The activity included a presentation from the legal aspect of consumer rights with lawyer Moulay Mohamed El-Mami Moulay Ely, about the Mauritanian consumer and the quality of services, in addition to a presentation with Dr. Lakweri El-Haiba Lakraa on food safety in Mauritania.

It also included a lecture on the role of scholars and imams in consumer protection with Imam Abah Ould Bidah.
