Confidence will be -38 in May, the statistics office reports CBS. That is one point lower than a month earlier. The indicator was still at -59 in September last year, the lowest point since the start of the survey. Consumer confidence has been recovering since November, although it remains well below the average of -10.
Opinions on the economic climate are more negative in May. This includes the economic situation in the past twelve months and the situation in the next twelve months. This confidence indicator has dropped to -53, from -48 in April. Consumers are particularly hesitant about the coming year.
When people have to assess their own financial situation, they are less pessimistic. Willingness to buy has risen from -30 to -28. Consumers feel now is a better time to make large purchases.
