Consumer, Car and motor | The bestseller is being upgraded: – Our biggest launch in a long time

Since the Audi e-tron SUV came on the Norwegian market at the end of 2018, it has been delivered in 24,890 copies, according to the Road Traffic Information Council. Only two models have higher figures in the period – Tesla Model Y and Model 3.

In 2020, the e-tron SUV was the most delivered car in this country, which has never happened to an Audi model before. Now the model comes in an upgraded version, called Q8 e-tron.

– This is our biggest launch in a long time, said Audi boss Elin Sinervo from Moss when she presented the very first Q8 e-tron on Norwegian soil.

Externally, there are changes in the front, with a new design, otherwise the car is visually very similar to its predecessor. Sinervo said that it was not desirable to make major changes to the new model because the e-tron SUV has been so popular, especially in Norway.

Since the launch of the e-tron until today, Audi has gone from not delivering electric cars at all, to last year electric cars accounted for 97 percent of the brand’s deliveries.

Increased range

The most important thing about the new model is not the small design changes in the front, but a more practical feature.

– It has a better range. New technology has made better use of the space in the battery pack, explains product manager Johan Ramstad.

Thus, the new version counters what has been the point of appeal against the e-tron SUV – a rather poor range. The three versions 50, 55 and S all have better battery capacity than before: 50 goes from 59 kWt usable capacity to 89 kWt, thus increasing the range by 44 per cent, to 49 miles. The 55 version has 106 kW which gives a range of 58 miles, which is a 32 per cent increase. The fittest, the S version, has the same battery as the 55 and now manages 49 miles.

The price for the Q8 e-tron 50 starts at NOK 700,000, the 55 starts at NOK 820,000, and the S version costs from NOK 824,000. This means that the new edition is well over 100,000 above the version it replaces.

The first deliveries to Norwegian customers will arrive at the end of March or the beginning of April. Sinervo also said that they expected a fairly short delivery time, so that an order today would give a car before the summer.
