Consultations for a vote of no confidence in the government begin in Bulgaria – 2024-09-22 16:42:18

/ world today news/ The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) begins consultations with the other parliamentary parties about submitting a vote of no confidence against the government. The decision was made after the Council of Ministers had previously nominated European Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva for UN Secretary General in place of the country’s previous official contender, Irina Bokova, RIA Novosti reported on Wednesday (September 28).

“The straw that broke the camel’s back was the elevation of Kristalina Georgieva to the position of UN Secretary General. There are also other arguments – the policy regarding refugees, the attempt in our country to create ghettos, the sanctions against Russia,” said BSP leader Kornelia Ninova after the meeting of the parliamentary group.

Formally, the vote of no confidence will be because of a failure in foreign policy, but the reasons will be clarified with the other parliamentary groups that would support it. In order for the vote to be submitted, 48 signatures are needed, and the socialists in the parliament are only 38. It is expected that he will be supported by the ABV deputies, who also supported Bokova for UN Secretary General. Negotiations will probably be held with DPS, with “Ataka” and with some of the independent people’s representatives.
