Consulate of Mexico in Havana informs about visa procedures for Cuban students

Currently, there are many Cuban students seeking to apply for a scholarship at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Among the most common options is the scholarship from the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt) for postgraduate studies.

In this sense, the Consulate of Mexico in Cuba issued an important statement for Cuban scholarship recipients who plan to study at Conacyt.

This is crucial information to ensure the proper processing of visas and legalization of documents. All this so that those interested can travel and enroll on time in the universities and research centers where they were accepted.

Meanwhile, Conacyt scholarship recipients must present specific documents to be assisted by the consulate. For example, the authorization from the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) and the acceptance letter from the Mexican educational institution where they will study.

But, to verify if they are authorized to appear at the visa interview, Cubans can do an online procedure.

The first thing is to check if your passport number appears on a specific list that has been released for weekly attention.

If so, you can schedule your appointment through the CitasCuba system, selecting the option “Visa: WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM THE CONACYT SCHOLAR INM”.

What should be presented?

Scholarship holders must present all required documents, including a complete template with photo. But, regardless of the visa procedures, they will be able to legalize their academic documents such as degrees, transcripts and birth certificates.

All of this can be on the same day as your visa appointment and without the need to make a specific appointment for it.

But, it must be clarified that to certify the documents they must be previously legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba (MINREX). This is established by the Mexican Consulate.

Additionally, to obtain a Conacyt scholarship and study at a Mexican university as a foreigner, certain steps must be followed.

First, it is necessary to investigate the universities and academic programs in Mexico that are most related to the interests of the scholarship recipient.

They must also ensure that the university and the program are accredited and recognized by CONACYT. As well as making sure you meet the general eligibility requirements for CONACYT scholarships.

Likewise, they must comply with language requirements if these are necessary. It is essential to consult the admission process and the required documents on the university website.

Then, CONACYT will review the applications and documentation provided by interested parties. If they met the requirements and passed the evaluation, they could be selected to receive the scholarship.
