Train passengers who travel on the U79 between Düsseldorf and Duisburg still need strong nerves. The subway has not stopped at the “Freiligrathplatz” stop for a week and will not stop until August 8th, and Rheinbahn is now announcing the next restrictions.

Due to work on the overhead line, the U79 cannot run as usual between the “Freiligrathplatz” and “Duisburg, Kesselsberg” stops from Thursday, August 8th, 4 a.m., to Wednesday, August 14th, 4 a.m. Coming from Düsseldorf city center, the trains run from the “Messe Ost/Stockumer Kirchstraße” stop along the U78 route and end at the “Merkur-Spiel-Arena/Messe Nord” stop. From here, the trains travel back again.

Rail replacement services: Buses are on the road longer

Coming from Duisburg, the trains heading towards Düsseldorf end at the “Duisburg, Kesselsberg” stop, turn around and drive back. On the closed section between the “Messe Ost/Stockumer Kirchstraße” and “Duisburg, Kesselsberg” stops, buses are used instead of trains.

The replacement buses usually stop at the tram stops or at a replacement stop on the right-hand side of the road. Due to the diversions and the fact that buses are being used instead of trains, there may be waiting times and delays. All changes are included in the timetable information and in the Rheinbahn app.
