In the construction of the station and related infrastructure of the “Rail Baltica” railway project near the “Riga” airport, the construction works of the reinforced concrete structures of the station building, the foundation of the overpass and the access roads are currently underway, “Delfi Bizness” informed the representatives of the “European Railway Line” that implemented the project in Latvia.

This will be the first high-speed rail and air traffic connection center in the Baltics.
Kaspars Vingris, the chairman of the board of “European railways” assesses that “good progress has been made in the construction of Rail Baltica in Latvia at both international stations, the design work continues successfully in the other objects. “Currently, our main task as the customer is to ensure the connection of these objects in a common traffic network on a single track, ” he says.
At the moment, one of the most important infrastructure construction works has been completed in terms of scope of work – the construction of 534 piles of the railway station building and the adjacent overpasses. The construction of the baggage transportation tunnel, which will connect the “Rail Baltica” railway station with the new terminal of the “Riga” airport, is nearing completion. With a conveyor system, passenger luggage will be transported through the tunnel in both directions, connecting the railway with air traffic. This is the first of a total of five stages of the construction of “Rail Baltica” at this facility, which envisages the execution of consecutive works to ensure the continuity of the airport’s operation throughout the construction period.
As company representatives inform, currently most of the works are related to underground structures and communication networks, but in the future, when the construction of the frame of the station building and the overpass with passenger platforms is started, the outlines of the above-ground structures will also become visible. A significant amount of work is related to the construction of the future P5 parking lot and the reconstruction of the airport access roads. As part of the next stage of work, the construction of railway overpasses will be carried out from the future station both in the direction of Imanta to the aviation hangar and in the direction of Jaunmārupi.
In the course of this “Rail Baltica” project, a 4.5 km high-speed railway line should be built, which includes both an overpass and an embankment, as well as a high-speed railway station on several levels with multi-functional, passenger-friendly infrastructure.
The construction of the “Rail Baltica” station and related infrastructure near the Riga airport is carried out by the international association “BSL Infra”, which consists of the Austrian company “Swietelsky AG” and Latvian construction companies – SIA “Binders” and AS “LNK Industries”.
“Rail Baltica” railway station and airport will be connected by a pedestrian bridge and a square after the construction of the new airport terminal. Passengers will be able to get to the airport not only with the international high-speed train, which is scheduled four times a day, but also with a regular regional traffic train. The construction of “Rail Baltica” in Latvia takes place in stages, the project is planned to be completed in 2030, gradually starting the operation of the railway line.
