“Good companies are reliable even in difficult times”
Tips. It’s a tricky situation. At the moment it is extremely difficult to find craftsmen, “that’s why we advise you to stay in contact with the construction company in the event of delays, to inquire, possibly to set grace periods,” says Ulrike Weiß from the consumer protection department of the Upper Austrian Chamber of Labor.
This tip goes to everyone who is already in the middle of building or renovating a house and can no longer make any progress. If construction has not yet started, it is possible to withdraw from the contract. “It makes sense not to pay anything that has not yet been done. It is impossible to estimate how companies will get out of this crisis. And things that don’t have to happen immediately should be postponed in the current situation, ”said Weiß.
In principle, the following applies: Good companies are reliable partners even in difficult times and will look for the best possible path together with their customers.
Many home builders are also faced with higher costs. Incidentally, a unilateral price increase of the agreed fixed costs is only permissible if it has been agreed in advance in the contract. “Price increases are always at the expense of the company if a fixed price has been agreed in advance,” says Ulrike Weiß.
The AK OÖ has published the extensive brochure “Building without Trouble”, which on ooe.arbeiterkammer.at can be downloaded.
