Construction site inaugurated at Palazzo S.Felice, Mattarella thanks Sangiuliano – Il Tempo

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “I would like to thank Minister Sangiuliano who has taken up the baton with conviction and determination”. Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in greeting him on the occasion of the inauguration of the construction site of the new headquarters of the National Library of Archeology and Art History of Rome in Palazzo San Felice. “It’s an important moment for the Quirinale, I believe also for the city of Rome,” he adds. “It is a journey that began in December 2017 to carry out this large-scale intervention and to give Rome a new cultural hub. Despite the obstacle of the pandemic season, architect Botta’s idea developed and I thank him. Today – added Mattarella – there are many reasons for satisfaction for this stage because the work begins and we enter the operational phase. What is happening is part of a path of innovation for the Quirinale: the Palace is permanently open to visits, a significant number of rooms have been set aside for the public, many works of contemporary art have been introduced to make the artistic expression of Republic”. The new life of Palazzo San Felice is the result of a careful and innovative study, in perfect balance between ancient and modern, which required the involvement of all interested parties: the Quirinale opened the property to the community, the Ministry of Culture financed the project, the State Property Agency, as contracting authority, is engaged in the restoration and conservation of one of the most important public works in our country, which will come back to life not only as a cultural hub, but also as an innovative tool for regeneration urban. “The move to Palazzo San Felice will make the library more accessible to visitors, scholars and researchers from all over the world, helping to promote knowledge and protection of the Italian archaeological and historical-artistic heritage – stated Minister Sangiuliano – The new headquarters will be equipped with larger and more modern spaces which will allow the rich book heritage to be hosted in a more efficient and functional way. Furthermore, the library will be located in a historical context of great importance, positioning the renovated structure as a center of research and culture at an international level”. Also present at the inauguration ceremony were the Director of the State Property Agency, Alessandra Dal Verme, and the architect Mario Botta who worked on the recovery and restoration project of the entire building complex and the redevelopment of the spaces.
