The sector federation attributes the positive future prospects mainly to external factors. There are, for example, the recovery plans for 5.2 billion euros for the period 2021-2026 and 2.6 billion euros are also expected for reconstruction after the floods in Wallonia. However, the Construction Confederation warns that the (un)affordability of housing constitutes “a significant downside risk”.

The Construction Confederation expects growth of 2.6 percent for 2022. In 2023 that would be 2.3 percent. For 2024, the Construction Confederation expects a growth of 2.2 percent.

“The high energy prices have one advantage: people rightly look for alternative energy sources that affect them less in their portfolio, such as solar panels, heat pumps, extra insulation. That is not only good for the climate (less fossil fuel consumption), but also for the construction sector, which receives additional orders”, says Niko Demeester, CEO of the Construction Confederation.
